3/16/10

I had my most frustrating day at work today, which ranged from struggling to change a few kids clothes to this incident with paint, which involved a student bolting for the unlocked paint bottles. This is what led to the terrible mess of paint (which took over an hour to clean up) and my jacket, pants, shirt and shoes to be covered in the stuff. Fortunately, it's washable and shouldn't be a problem to remove from my beloved Chuck Taylor's and my new jeans.

These two boxes of CD's (each stacked two deep) are waiting for a home on a shelf, and have been for years. I believe they'll get that opportunity in a few weeks, as CD racks that I like are now on sale at a local retailer.

This 44 oz. Coke had a strange journey. I almost didn't buy it, which would have broken tradition, but decided to pick one up at the last minute, as it was the perfect chance to try out my new cup holder. They worked well until the final turn, when 2/3 of the drink spilled onto the floor. I almost decided to forget about it, but instead went to a second 7-11 to get my second refill of the half hour.

A lack of inspiration maybe? These are the four things I bought at at the physical store of a prominent online retailer that opens their doors once a week. The only item I plan to keep is the power supply, because after having one go out and another scare, you can never have enough of these.

Although lacking the proper perspective (and having been taken a few blocks too late) this offers a view to those non-locals as to the hill I drive up and down each day to and from work.

I always feel weird posting pictures of people without them knowing it, but you can't really see them, so it doesn't make it as bad, I suppose. This came as an impromptu evening with a friend, which led to a tremendous amount of fun (including watching YouTube clips on an iPhone) at a time when I needed it most.

Despite knowing that season 20 of the Simpsons had none of the amazing extras that the other seasons have (as in none at all) I still bought it, but waited until it was on sale. It was a pretty awful season, and despite this, I'll probably buy it again when they release it properly, which they inevitably will.

We had a hand tracing activity in class today, which left my hands looking like this. Surprisingly, for a washable marker, I was amazed at how much effort it took to get the marker off of my hand. It still looked like this the next day after washing it.

Among the six pair of pants I bought for myself for my birthday, were three pair of Levi's Eco brand, which are supposed to be recycled from something or other. As much as that appealed to me, their incredible softness and price of $19.99 were the real selling points for me.

Tonight, I attended my first Oscars party, and though I probably finished dead last with a wimpy 7/24 picks correct, I did have the excuse of a) not having seen any of the movies and b) not changing any picks once the broadcast started. I did catch clips of many movies that I think would appeal to me, meaning I now have a huge list of things to rent.

This is my bookshelf. Really, it remains unchanged from the last decade or so. It also tells you everything you need to know about me via its sports cards, band stickers, wrestling magazines and coins. If ever you needed a, "This Is Your Life" for me, look no further than the bookshelf.

March 5, 2010

3/5/10

I woke up, prepared for work and opened the door to the sight of snow. This was the last thing I expected as I opened my door this morning. A quick change of shoes (from the Converse I was wearing to the boots sitting near the door) and a quick photo and brush off of the car, and I was on my way to work, slightly later than I otherwise would have been if the weather had been in the 50's like it had been the rest of the week.

March 4, 2010

Another horrible photo, and proof that I need to look at these after I take them. This is a photo of my laundry bag of dark clothes, which still hasn't been washed yet.

One of the items I've wanted ever since I got my laptop is a wireless mouse, since I struggle with the pad on the computer. Not only was I able to get one, but I got the one I'd been watching since September, as it happened to be on sale at Best Buy earlier this week.

March 2, 2010

3/2/10

I have very little explanation of this, other than to say that it's my laptop keyboard, and I spent a significant amount of time on it this evening testing out my new wireless mouse, which is featured in tomorrow's photo.

This is my primary set of keys. Currently, it has three actual chains on it: a class of 2000 from the year I graduated, a light that I got to see my ignition on my scooter and my latest acquisition, a Chicago Bears bottle opener that I got for half price to open the bottles of Coke I've been buying on occasion. I really need to remember to get my scooter keys copied, as this key chain contains the only set of them. You'd think I'd have already done this after losing them for seven months last fall and spring, but I haven't.

I love this coat, and though it has been losing feathers since I destroyed it in the washer four or five years ago, it's still the warmest coat I've ever owned. I hope to find one that fits me better (and that doesn't have numerous holes) for the winter of 2011.

I love shopping at NPS. They've provided me with many simple items (batteries, pens, groceries) at a discount price and many more useful items such as clothing, CD's, records, sports cards and countless other practical and impractical items. I can't begin to tell you how well this error-filled sign fits the store. For the record, it's wrong on two fronts: the 28th was actually a Sunday, meaning that if there were a 29th and 30th of February, this sign would be for Sunday-Tuesday rather than Thursday through Saturday.

February 26, 2010

2/26/10

For eight years, the Vanessa Carlton signed photo has been on my wall. I won it in a contest at the beginning of her career in which the first 500 fans who submitted a photo of themselves with her new single (which at this time was her first single, "A Thousand Miles") would be sent an autographed photo. I was one of the few with a digital camera in these early days of such items, and submitted a photo within minutes.

The other photo? That's Jodie Sweetin of Full House fame. I obtained that after waiting in line for almost two hours at a kids expo in which she and Candace Cameron were guests signing autographs. The photo sat in perfect condition in a folder in my file cabinet until I took it out to scan it, misplaced it and found it six months later with a giant crease down the middle. Though I wish that I hadn't let that happen to the photo, at least it now hangs safely on the wall.

This USB drive has been sitting atop my Ditty Bops CD for the last few weeks. I wish that I had more of a story for this photo, but I don't.

February 24, 2010

2/24/10

I'm embarassed by how bad this photo is. Why a cup? Because I've been sick with various illnesses all month, and it felt like the perfect way to represent drinking orange juice for the last three weeks.

February 23, 2010

2/23/10

My friends played their first show since last fall, and though I enjoyed three of the four bands that played that night, I decided to spend most of the evening near the fire pit and away from the loud music and the cramped and hot temperature of the venue. Thus, the photo of the fire and not of any of the bands.

This is a closeup of the veil that my sister wore at her wedding, which is the same one my mom wore at hers. It was a last minute decision, and almost didn't work as it took real effort to get it to stay in her hair.

February 21, 2010

2/21/10

This is the guestbook format from the wedding of my sister. I love how they simply printed some of their invitation photos out and placed them on paper and had family and friends sign that. This is yet another small (but genius) idea that they had that made the night so great.

February 20, 2010

2/20/10

Today was my younger (and only) sister's wedding, and it was not only held at a beautiful church, but the wedding itself and the reception were both fantastic. To say that they were the best wedding and reception I've ever attended would be an understatement.

This photo of her was a candid one that I took of her not long after the ceremony as she was presumably looking for someone.

2/19/10

A few days ago, I commented that I bought two new ties at a thrift store. The purple on the far left and the orange tie were the two, with the black tie being a purchase from earlier in the week and the purple on the far right being the tie I'll be wearing for my sister's wedding tomorrow. I really love how well the tie goes with the suit and I'm really excited to see how well the tie, pocket square and shoes (which I finally bought today) all come together in a finished product.

I bet you can tell what event will encompass tomorrow's photo, right?

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but among the many things I collected as a kid were sports cards. The set in this binder is the semi-key 1988-89 Fleer basketball set that was a favorite of mine in my early days of collecting due to the look of the cards and the many valuable rookie cards in the set. Even within a few years of the cards hitting the market, packs sold for more than a set sells for now. The value kept me from purchasing one until last year, and I'm glad that I did, as my collection really feels more complete. This also makes up for my elementary school classmate Nathan's aunt making him reverse the trading of cards from this set that I made with him in third or fourth grade due to their value. At the time, she was right, but how are you going to college on that $50-75 set now?

At a thrift store on my birthday (yes, today was my birthday) I bought a pair of jeans, this tie, a second tie and a belt for $12. My favorite of those items though is this tie. Not only do I love the color, but I love the pattern. My sister's wedding colors are purple and if the ties for her wedding don't arrive in the next 72 hours, I'm going to lobby for this one. A long shot yes, but this is a tough tie to beat.

I admit that this is a pretty bad photo. It's of the contents of a box that filled a legal size box of stuff that I bought on eBay from about 2000-2004, including band presskit photos, magazines and even movie posters. Most of these things need a new home, though the items I want to get rid of the most are likely the least valuable.

2/15/10

On this Presidents Day, I'm reminded of the absolute fascination I had with presidential history. These particular books (which are now significantly out of date) were among my favorites on the subject. On a day like this, I'm grateful that my dad was always willing to buy me books, regardless of the cost.

Even if it's $35 in 1989 or 1990 for a book that was 25 years old at the time.

February 14, 2010

2/14/10

On Wednesday, we had our class Valentine's Day celebration, and though I'm not a huge candy person (and was ill at the time) I was grateful for the candy I received from the kids and the staff. My family and friends will be even more grateful, as I plan on giving most of it to them. Another note about this photo: I always wanted this to be the photo for February 14th, so I (and others) had to refrain from eating any of it until today.

This is my inexpensive Crate brand guitar that is in about the same condition today as it was the day I bought it twelve or so years ago. That has to do more with a lack of playing it than my great job at taking care of it. Once I learn how to put new strings on it I'd like to learn to play it or at least learn if it's a decent guitar.

February 11, 2010

2/11/10

All week I kept seeing these blue Converse marked at 50% off of an already low price in the discount section of a local grocery store and kept hoping they'd still be around when I actually had money. I pulled every trick in the book to keep them hidden from turning the box around to putting them on the bottom shelf so that they'd be harder to see. Upon my trip to purchase them, I saw that the price had been discounted to 60% and grabbed them immediately. Now, a green pair (which I'm not too keen on) is also discounted to this price (making them $21.99) and I'll probably pick those up if the price comes down another 10%.

February 10, 2010

2/10/10

Earlier this week, my family found three things while cleaning: a cassette tape featuring two songs I wrote at age thirteen, the owner's manual to my car and most importantly, an uncashed paycheck from my last job dated three years ago this week, which had never been opened. You may ask how that's possible, and to make a long story short, it was due to me suddenly making more money and being used to living on the old amount, so I was accumulating checks faster than I could spend them. This was one of those that simply got misplaced and not noticed due to me not needing money at the time. It has since been reissued and is good to cash, giving me almost $400 I didn't expect to have.

February 9, 2010

2/9/10

This was yet another placeholder photo taken early in the day with the hope that I'd find something better later on. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about the project later in the day and thus this is the photo for the 9th of February.

February 8, 2010

2/8/10

While watching a college basketball game, I caught the reflection of the television in a spindle of DVD-R's that I had on my desk. It took a few tries due to focus, but I had a more successful photo than I thought possible come out as a result.

February 7, 2010

2/7/10

One of the many great things about having a job again is I can resume selling my collection of nearly everything on eBay again. Among those items are these four keyboards that are all extremely popular, sell for $50+ and cost me less than $3.00 each. As much fun as they are, I'd much rather have the money and the space than these items in the house.

2/6/10

This is a stack of records that were not purchased at a thrift store and all were purchased before I owned a record player. In the stack are a number that I'm selling (The Anniversary) a number that I already own on CD (Sahara Hotnights, Jenny Lewis) and still more that are rare. I have no room to put them until I get rid of more stuff, which will hopefully be soon.

My two newest record acquisitions? Fanfarlo's Reservoir (shown) and Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene) hidden underneath it. Total spent? $1.98. I really like the Fanfarlo album cover and though I've yet to listen to it yet, at least it has served a purpose as a great album cover.
